Crafting Your Own Deck
Deck Building – Part: II
The Type # means you
can only have that many
copies of a card in play,
but up to four copies in
your deck. In this example,
you can have one copy of
Projectus Immunis in play.
A Construction Cost of
[2] means each copy
of this card in your deck
costs 2 points towards
your 90 total points.
Customizing Your Play Deck
Once a new player understands the basics of game play, they are encouraged to begin building their own custom play deck in order to test their own strategies and play style. In fact, Battle for Sularia was specifically designed with deck building in mind. Each card has a construction point cost of 1 to 4 points, which was developed to maintain interest and play consideration for all cards in the game. Please note, these costs are the numbers in brackets towards the bottom of each card.
The 60/90 Rule
Instead of only considering the perceived “power cards” when building your deck, in Battle for Sularia, if you choose to incorporate cards with construction point costs of 3 or 4 points, then you must balance your deck with cards that cost 1 or 2 points. We refer to this balancing of construction points as “The 60/90 Rule.” In other words, your play deck must have a minimum of 60 cards, but it cannot exceed 90 construction points.
Maximum of Four Copies and the Card Types
In addition to the construction point cost system, your deck can only have up to four copies of a card with the same name printed on it. However, the number of copies of a card with the same name in play—on your side of the battlefield—is determined by its card type. Some cards, like combatants and sites, have a card type printed under the name of the card.
For example, a type 4 means you could have up to four copies of that card in play. However, a type 1 means you can have only one copy of that card in play. Technically speaking, if you already have the maximum number of cards in play for its given type, you may play another copy, but one of the existing copies in play must be discarded. Just remember, regardless of the card’s Type, you can include up to four copies of that card in your deck.
